3rd Friday Family Gardening

Thank you to the 14 families who joined us on a rainy-sunny day for such productive fun for all ages. We had a lively welcome circle with reindeer and puppies even joining us in imagination. A charging ‘come butter come’ song we sang while shaking pure cream in a couple of large jars that went around our 30-ish participant circle and we danced while making that cream into butter.
While many participants chopped the colourful vegetables they brought to make a ‘Stone Soup’ with Tian, others cleared weeds by ‘digging in with gusto’ at the side of the Scout Hall Yard. After much admiration for the transformation from a chaotic weedy mass to clear soil, families then planted trees, bushes, flowers and vegetables in that brand new garden bed.
All families created their own biodiverse take home garden in a recycled plant pot.
The worm farm was inoculated with biodynamic preparations while people learned the value of balancing the soil in a compost system for healthy gardens and healthy food.
Gathering around the table kneading sourdough and decorating with amaranth, nasturtium, sunflower and lemons made for a merry baking session with baked buns for all to eat on site or to take home.
Rag weaving and herb satchel making was also available for additional sensorial activity.
The children impressed us with their agility and balance on the outdoor climbing frame. Others gravitated to the creative play available in the thoughtfully prepared playroom.
What a feast we enjoyed together with our delicious ‘stone soup’ (Who got a stone???) with sauerkraut and home made sourdough bread with our Home made butter!!
We sang good-bye to all our new gardening and cooking buddies.
We hope you can join us for some more meaningful fun for our 4 gardening sessions on Fridays in May and Sundays in June in Term 2!
